About RUN West Texas

Hi, I am Charity Welps, the Director of RUN West Texas and I am so excited that I was able to bring this program to Amarillo for young track athletes to get in work during the full year.  Whether you are in elementary, junior high, or high school, our goal is to develop the passion for track while continuing to build it as you get older.

Teaching you to RUN today so you can FLY tomorrow.

Charity Welps – Director of RUN West Texas

With 15 years of coaching experience across the Amarillo and Lubbock communities, my mission has always been more than just winning games—it’s about developing the whole athlete. As a wife, mother, and professional diagnostician, I view sports through a lens of growth, discipline, and individualized care.

Since founding RUN West Texas in August 2021, my focus has remained steadfast: providing a platform where every athlete can excel in their specific goals. Having served as a Head Coach for Volleyball, Track, Cross Country, and Softball, I firmly believe that Track and Field is the foundation for all athletic success. It is the ultimate arena for building the mental toughness and physical explosiveness that elevates performance in every other sport.

I am incredibly grateful for the dedicated coaches who have helped grow this vision. We invite you to join the RUN West Texas family, where we are committed to taking your grit, your skill, and your game to the next level.

“Working with young people is a privilege. Watching an athlete transform their mindset and their skill set is why I do what I do.” — Charity Welps

1 Corinthians 9:24–25

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training…”

Philip Sebastiani – Distance Coach

I coach to serve as a role model for young athletes exploring the sport and to help foster a positive and healthy environment of training and racing for the next generation.

Josh Watts – Coach (Sprints/Mid-Distance/Distance)

Hello my name is Josh Watts. I have been married for 12 years to my beautiful wife Breanna Watts and have 2 wonderful boys Coltley (9) and Braxley (4).

When we 1st learned about Run WTX 3 yrs ago it opened our lives to many amazing experiences; not only growing in the knowledge of the sport with our oldest but allowing me the opportunity to coach as well! The part I love best about coaching is building relationships with the kids. I feel like now a days, we push kids so hard that we forget that building relationships with them is what will stick with them so much more!!! The student relationships that have been developed over time has allowed us to follow many of our athletes through high school and continue cheering them on to achieve their goals at the college level.

Run WTX is the best program out there for many reasons; not only does it work towards and achieve PR’s and jumps, but it builds those life-changing relationships that will stay with your young athletes through their whole lives!!!

Sara Winn – Coach (Hurdles and Jumps)

Hi! My name is Sara Winn and I have been apart of RUNWTX for 3 years! A little about me: I ran the 400 hurdles, 200, 400 and 4×4 at the collegiate level for two years at both Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Cameron University.

At both schools I hold the school record for the 400 hurdles.

The reason I love working with RUNWTX is because of the community it has brought me.

      Interested in Coaching?

Thanks to all the coaches that have stepped up to help RUN West Texas get going and for those that will come our way.  Always looking for coaches that love helping young athletes in running (sprints/distance), jumping events, throwing events, hurdles, and relays.

We want to expand and continue to grow the Amarillo area but we are in need of coaches that can help as we continue to grow.  Please reach out and contact Charity Welps at 806-664-1831 if you would like to help.
